Comprehensive guide to the race system in Blox Fruits. Learn about all available races, awakening stages (V2/V3/V4), combat benefits, and how to choose the optimal race for your playstyle.
How races work in Blox Fruits
Races are character attributes that provide passive benefits and active abilities to enhance your combat effectiveness. Each race offers distinct advantages suited to different playstyles, ranging from mobility enhancements to defensive bonuses and offensive improvements.
Every player starts as the Human race, which provides balanced characteristics. Races can be changed through specific NPCs in exchange for in-game currency, allowing players to experiment with different racial benefits as they progress through the game.
Races complement your Devil Fruit, Fighting Style, and weapon choices. The synergy between your race and other equipment can significantly impact your effectiveness in both PvE grinding and PvP combat scenarios.
For combat strategies utilizing race abilities, see our PvP guide and grinding guide.

The starting race with balanced characteristics. Offers versatility across different playstyles without specific specializations.

A mobility-focused race that excels in movement speed. Provides advantages in traversal and positioning during combat.

A water-oriented race with advantages in aquatic environments. Reduces water-based penalties and improves swimming capabilities.

A flight-capable race that offers aerial mobility advantages. Provides enhanced energy efficiency for sustained movement.

A combat-focused race that thrives in extended battles. Gains advantages through health regeneration and life steal mechanics.

A technology-enhanced race with defensive capabilities. Offers damage reduction and increased survivability in combat.
Unlock enhanced race abilities
Race awakening allows you to unlock progressively more powerful versions of your racial abilities. Each awakening stage requires completing specific quests or progression milestones, with higher stages demanding more challenging requirements.
The first awakening stage that enhances your race's passive benefits. V2 provides improved versions of your base racial statistics and strengthens the core advantages of your chosen race.
Benefits: Enhanced passive bonuses, improved base statistics, stronger racial advantages
Requirement: The Alchemist's flower quest in the Green Zone (Second Sea)
The second awakening stage that unlocks an active ability for your race. V3 provides a triggerable skill with a cooldown that offers powerful temporary effects during combat.
Benefits: Active ability unlock, temporary combat buffs, enhanced tactical options
Requirement: Defeat Don Swan, finish Arowe's race-specific quest and pay 2,000,000 Beli (Second Sea)
The final and most powerful awakening stage. V4 provides the strongest racial enhancements including transformation mechanics and ultimate abilities. This version represents the peak of racial power.
Benefits: Transformation mechanics, ultimate abilities, maximum stat enhancements
Requirement: V2 and V3, a Mirror Fractal (Dough King), the full-moon gear on Mirage Island, and the Temple of Time trials with at least three players of different races (Third Sea). Draco has its own V4 path through the Dragon Dojo.
Note: Players report that rerolling your race can reset V2/V3 progress, so don't assume upgrades carry over. Race awakening (V2–V4) is also a separate system from fruit awakening, which uses raids and Fragments.
Combat benefits and tactical advantages
Races provide both passive benefits that are always active and active abilities (at V3+) that can be triggered during combat. These benefits stack with your Devil Fruit, Fighting Style, and weapon bonuses to create your overall combat effectiveness.
The effectiveness of racial benefits depends on your overall build synergy. A race that complements your Devil Fruit type and Fighting Style will provide greater overall impact than a race chosen in isolation.
Strategy Tip: Consider your current content focus when selecting a race. Mobility-focused races excel during grinding and exploration, while defensive or offensive races may provide more value in PvP scenarios. Experiment with different races to find the best fit for your playstyle.
